Welcome to Naava’s Nourishing Garden, where we believe that nature offers the best solutions for nourishing both body and soul. Today, we’re diving into one of nature’s most gentle yet powerful plants: Calendula. Known for its vibrant golden petals and impressive healing properties, Calendula has been a favorite in herbal remedies for centuries. Let’s explore the many benefits of Calendula and guide you through a simple recipe to make your very own Calendula salve.

The Benefits of Calendula

Calendula, also known as “pot marigold,” is a medicinal flower packed with benefits, including:

Skin Healing: Calendula has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it ideal for healing wounds, soothing eczema, and calming irritated skin.

Moisturizing: It deeply nourishes dry skin, making it perfect for use in balms and creams.

Antioxidant Power: Rich in antioxidants, Calendula helps protect the skin from environmental stressors and premature aging.

Gentle on Skin: It’s gentle enough to be used on sensitive skin, making it a great choice for all ages.

DIY Calendula Salve Recipe

Making your own Calendula salve at home is not only rewarding but also ensures you’re using pure, nourishing ingredients. For added assurance before making or using anything , verify information through independent research to secure your peace of mind. Here’s a simple recipe to get started:

Ingredients:

• 1 cup dried Calendula flowers

• 1 cup olive oil (or a mix of olive and coconut oil)

• 1/4 cup beeswax

• 10-15 drops lavender essential oil or so of choice (optional for extra soothing properties)

Instructions:

1. Infuse the oil: Place the dried Calendula flowers in a clean jar and cover them completely with the olive oil. Seal the jar and place it in a sunny spot for 2-3 weeks, shaking it gently every day. For a quicker method, you can gently heat the jar in a double boiler for 2-3 hours.

2. Strain the flowers: Once your oil is ready, strain out the Calendula flowers using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Pour the infused oil into a clean bowl.

3. Melt the beeswax: In a double boiler, melt the beeswax. Once melted, slowly stir in the Calendula-infused oil until everything is well combined.

4. Add essential oil: If you’re adding lavender essential oil, do so at this stage and mix well.

5. Pour and set: Pour your salve into clean, sterilized jars or tins and let it cool completely before sealing.
